Home Four ‘Rs’ for Studying Good Reading Noah Webster’s Examination of the US Constitution

Noah Webster’s Examination of the US Constitution

Noah Webster

At the same time as the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers were being penned other pamphlets were also published.  Noah Webster’s Examination of the U.S. Constitution is provided through Google Books’ digitized version of 1888 compilation of known pamphlets by Paul Leicester Ford.  Ford brought together many “Pamphlets on the US Constitution” that many of us have never seen or heard of.  His efforts were directly tied to saving these writings before they disappeared.

The founders and framers had a great deal of respect for the insights and wisdom of Noah Webster.  The man who published the first dictionary based on English in America was intimately involved in the beginnings of our country.

Just as the Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, these pamphlets were written to share with people insights of the author’s view of the proposed Constitution prior to state ratifying conventions.  Webster was asked by Benjamin Franklin, then the President of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to review the document and share his thoughts on it.  Here are those thoughts which will help any of us studying our beginnings gain even better insight into the original meaning of our supreme law of the land.
